God Provides

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19, NIV).
The holidays were quite interesting this past year. Unfortunately, my Dad was hospitalized for 13 days over a period of two and a half weeks right around Christmas. My Dad was not well, but if you’ve ever been a caregiver, you know those two weeks were incredibly difficult on my Mom, too.
During his first hospital stay, he was in a very small room with an absolutely terrible bedside chair for my Mom. After “sleeping” there for two to three nights, she was waking with significant aches, pains, and difficulty walking. I was able to bring her to my house for a night’s rest, which helped, but it was definitely a strain on her physically as well, to say the least.
After spending a few days at home, some other issues came up and he was readmitted to the hospital. When I walked into the room where he was placed for the second stay, it was like walking into a hotel suite compared to the previous room.
Thank you, Jesus.
It was a tumultuous hospital stay over the course of those couple of weeks. But, as always, God showed up. When you’re in the trenches, it’s super important to be intentional to look for Jesus. In the big ways, and in the small ways.
He showed up in a bigger hospital room.
He showed up with the biggest TV in the hospital.
He showed up in a bigger, much more comfortable bedside chair.
It may seem silly to count these as blessings, but I sure do. He is our provider. Philippians 4:19 says: And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
He provided a better place for rest.
He provided a more spacious room to allow for family to visit.
He provided a big screen TV so that my Mom could enjoy sports while my Dad rested.
He provided a comfortable chair so Mom could rest enough to be able to stay with my Dad.
How has the Lord provided for you lately?
Take 5 minutes today to jot down a few things that come to mind. You may have a few extravagant examples, or you may just need to take a few moments to remember all the small ways Jesus has shown up in your life. I bet it will surprise you in the best way.
