Just Show Up

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think (Ephesians 3:20, NLT).
Faithfulness. Sometimes that is all He asks of us. What does faithfulness look like? Often it’s in the mundane of just showing up. For the past couple of years, I’ve tried to do just that with my writing.
Even though I don’t work in the clinic on Friday’s, I always set an alarm. Though I might be tired from the week, I do the best I can to roll out of bed anyway. With sleepy eyes and a sometimes sloppy outfit, I roll into my favorite coffee shop. I spend the three to four dollars to get myself a coffee and a chocolate chip cookie before I sit in front of my laptop. That is where you would find me typing these words right now.
Some mornings I’m able to produce hundreds of words and multiple devotions, and others I walk away knowing I simply showed up. It doesn’t sound fancy, and that’s because it isn’t.
Teachers show up everyday for the kids in their classroom. Garbage truck drivers show up everyday to run their routes. Grocery store workers show up everyday to stock the shelves. Baristas show up everyday to serve coffee.
Insert any profession and there’s a reason that person shows up. Sometimes it’s just for a paycheck, but many times it’s with purpose. When we lean into the showing up, we allow God room to work and move in our lives and in the lives of those we interact with on a daily basis. If we allow Him to be part of our day, our work can become worship.
Teachers show up and change the lives of their students. Garbage truck drivers show up to spread joy to the next generation. Grocery workers show up to supply a smile to shoppers who need an extra lift. Baristas show up to make customers feel cared for by remembering their order. Writers, like me, show up to create and use words to spread the love of Jesus.
I love the promise from Ephesians 3:20: Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
I am a daughter, sister, and friend. All glory to God. I am a writer and a creator. All glory to God. I am a physical therapist. All glory to God. I am a published author. All glory to God.
Even in the mundane, continue to choose faithfulness. Even when it’s hard or you aren’t sure where the Lord is leading you, continue to go with Him. Whatever we may ask or think, I believe He can and will accomplish so much more when we continue to show up.
