Power Source

And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19, NKJV).
While at work some time back, I was escorting a patient to the front desk. Upon exiting the room, a co-worker looked at me and we engaged in a conversation that went something like this:
Co-worker: “Hey, is this laptop charger yours?” Me: “If it’s the broken one, then yes.” Co-worker: “If it’s broken, what good is it to you?” Me: “Yeah, well, it’s not brand new, but it still works! Did you trying using it to charge your computer? I noticed quite a while back it was chipped a little, but every time I plug it into the power source it continues to work well to recharge my laptop.” Co-worker: “Okay, cool. I’ll give it a try. Thanks.”
When I go to work every day, the first thing I check is the level of my battery on my laptop. If I don’t have enough battery supply when I begin my day, I am certain my laptop won’t last through the day—which creates a problem. I know the battery’s level of charge will dictate my computer’s ability to have the power I need to accomplish my required work tasks (i.e., documentation, writing letters to doctors for patients, checking email, etc.) for the day. Thank goodness for chargers that allow us to recharge our computer batteries when they’re running short on energy supply.
In regard to my daily life, I realize I wake each morning relying on a certain amount of energy to accomplish the tasks set before me that day. That amount of energy likely depends on so many different factors—how I slept the night before, my health, relationships, work stress, etc.
We all have certain things in our lives that drain our energy, while others tend to help us recharge and fill us up. Though our required daily tasks look different depending on our current circumstances and stage of life, we all have many competing interests in our daily routine and we must enter each day with a certain level of energy to accomplish what is asked of us. It can often be difficult to prioritize our “ to-do lists” in order to make sure we have enough energy to accomplish the most important tasks before we run too low and shut down.
Interestingly, just like my laptop charger at work, things can often have a small defect or broken part and still be functional. I am so incredibly grateful that is true of us as well. Though we are all broken, we are still capable of being used by the Lord as long as we are connected to Jesus Christ. In recent years, I have grown to understand that, just as chargers recharge our batteries, God’s Word is our ultimate power source, which allows us to recharge our hearts, minds, and souls when we feel depleted.
So, when you’re feeling worn out and drained, and are wondering how you will find the energy to attack the never-ending to-do list for your day, remember to connect yourself to the power source of God’s Word. When we commit to plugging ourselves into our ultimate power source by spending time in God’s Word daily, He can supply all we need to accomplish the tasks He sets before us.
