The Lord’s Time

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord (Lamentations 3:25-26, NIV).
I have friends in multiple time zones, so I’m constantly calculating time backwards to make sure I don’t text someone when it’s 3:00am their time.
I was recently messaging with a friend to figure out a time to connect when she said “Let’s plan for 8:00pm, TLT.” I stared at the message trying to figure out what her abbreviation stood for. When I asked for clarification she responded by saying: Central Time, or, The Lord’s Time.
I laughed out loud, but also affirmed the statement. I lived in Mississippi for 2 months while on a clinical rotation during physical therapy school and the central time zone has been my favorite ever since. As a huge sports fan, CST truly is TLT, The Lord’s Time.
Basketball games end by 10pm. The Super Bowl starts at 5:30pm and is over by 9:30pm. I could go on, but you get the point. I love sports, but highly value sleep, so CST is the best!
Though our conversation specifically revolved around real time as it relates to events in our lives, it stirred my heart in terms of trusting the Lord’s timing in my life.
Could I have predicted buying a house before getting married and having a family? Nope.
Could I have predicted that I would end up working and living in Nicholasville? No way.
Could I have predicted meeting Jesus in such a transformational way in 2016? Nope.
Could I have predicted that I would be called “Aunt Katie” ten times over? No way.
Could I have imagined still being a single woman in my late 30s? Nope.
This list is but a sliver of all the ways the Lord has surprised me in this life. When I think about what it looks like to trust God’s timing, it doesn’t mean having all the answers. In fact, when we have all the answers, there is no need for trust, or faith.
Lamentations 3:25-26 reminds us to wait quietly: “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”
There are desires the Lord has placed in my heart that have yet to come to fruition, and to be honest, I don’t know with certainty that they will. But what I do know is that Jesus is Lord. And when I pause to reflect upon all He has done in my life, I know I can fully trust TLT.
TLT reminds me to regularly examine my heart. And there I find that I am content in Christ.
Despite the unknown, despite the unanswered prayers, and despite knowing every step along the path of His plan for my life, I trust Him. And it is the safest place I’ve ever known.
