What Does Easter Mean to You?

He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day (Luke 24: 6-7, NLT).
It’s Good Friday. This past week was Holy Week. Yesterday was Holy Thursday, which means we’re now just two days away from Easter Sunday.
There are so many different words and images that come to mind for me when I reflect upon this week and this time of year.
Spring. Jesus’ death on the cross. Flowers. Easter eggs. Beautiful dresses. Amazing church services. Easter baskets. Worshipping the One True King. Kids running around in the yard. Life. Death. Resurrection. Candy, but more specifically, chocolate. New life. Family. Sacrifice. Forgiveness.
This is a short list, but it quickly captures a summary of how I’ve grown to understand the Easter holiday. I am asking that each of you take 3-5 minutes, the same amount of time you would normally spend reading what I write, and jot down your own list. Think about what Easter means to you. Study, read, and reflect upon the events that comprise Holy Week. Allow your heart to be transformed by the sacrifice that Jesus made when He took our suffering upon Himself and was crucified.
Last, but certainly not least, talk about this list with a friend. Share it with a family member, a grandchild, a co-worker, a neighbor. Spend some time talking about Jesus, the events of this beautiful time in history when all our sins, past, present, and future, were forgiven.
Have a blessed Easter, friends! Love to all of you.
